I'd rather have a summer in Dallas verses a winter in Chicago any day.

You will acclimatize but it may take a year. If your wife is like mine and going through "The Change" it will never be cold enough in the summer. (or winter)

Being I am from Chicago and we pretty much spend all summer outside riding bikes. roller blading, hanging out on Lake Michigan, festivals, etc....

Will I be able to continue with my activities and how do you folks deal with the heat?
You will be able to continue with your activities. You will simply be doing them in fall, winter and spring, rather than just in summer. You will occasionally be able to do them in the summer, depending on what they are, once you get acclimated, but maybe not in August. You probably WON'T be able to attend all the festivals because you can't be in three or four places at once.

Default Keeping Things Cool

How do I deal with it? Well, the answers based on what we've written are going to be obvious. Since I got my new car, I'm really going to have superior air-conditioning going full-blast.

I don't have that big of a problem with the heat if I manage myself correctly. That's all there is to it.

Iced tea, then frozen margaritas at a polite time, say 11 a.m. And lots of Willie.

I'm sweeping off the back porch this morning......now about that pesky cold front.........(I guess the margarita glasses will sweat less, though!)

I'd be very surprised if they don't. I don't live there, so I don't know about all of them (heck, I live in the Austin area and don't know about all the ones just outside my front door!), but I do try to make a few down that way - RenFest, International Quilt Festival, sometimes the rodeo, and a few others.

Houston Festivals

More Houston Festivals

The summer doesn't stop me from doing anything: swimming, golfing, riding around in my convertible...

The only problem I have with Texas summers is the size of my electric bill!

Houston has tons of festivals. I used to live there. Art Car Parade, International Fest, several large art fests, film fests....they also have plays at Hermann Park amphitheatre in the summer/fall evenings. Just like in Austin...throw a stick in any direction and you'll hit a festival. Oh, the crawfish fest in old town spring is a good one. There is one in clear lake called the balunar fest (I spelled it wrong) but it's a play on words what with nasa being there, but it's got hot air balloons involved, and they do a few boat parades. They also have the ren faire in plantarsville, just outside of Tomball (not far from Houston).
