IMO, neither Houston nor Dallas is set up for a "fall" currently. A slowdown is already underway in Houston (and by "slowdown", I mean still growing, just no longer at light-speed pace), and it's likely that DFW will slow down at some point as well.

Both cities/metros will most likely continue to grow and prosper for a good long while, despite a few bumps in the road. They are both in the prime of their city-lives, and are both heavy-hitters on a national level. Even if Radio Shack and JC Penney go down, another sector will pick up the slack in DFW. Conversely, even if Southwest cuts back on Houston flights, another airline will fill the gap.

These things really won't have much of an effect on either city's economies or growth rates.

If that ever happened though IAH would loose flights that SW has opened there due to it's limitations in Love Field.
Southwest doesn't fly out of IAH. Also the Wright amendment which put those limitations on Love Field was lifted last October.

Your right atxcio I meant to say Hobby. By limitations however I meant the size of Love Field. Southwest only has so much gates at Love, and the airport itself is in the middle of the city so it can't really expand. Southwest will continue to grow with the Amendment lifted but most of the growth will be outside it's home airport. Houston will be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the lift with international flights out of Houston already announced in the past few months. I believe they're supposed to start flying to Costa Rica from Houston in March for example.

Not good for Texas' growth... But maybe we could use a breather to catch up on everything.

On a more positive note.. Downtown Houston continues to revitalize...

Hines' 32 story Market Square residential tower got underway today.. Numerous 18 wheelers were on site delivering crane segments and heavy machinery. Market Square is going to be a completely different animal come 2017 with this and the 40 story residential Market Square Tower going up across the park.

And demolition work aparentally got underway today at GreenStreet, making way for the new 25 story Hotel Alessandra.

I don't know what everyone is complaining about.

I'm happy paying $1.95/gal for my gas right now. I don't think a few months of lower gas prices are going to hurt much for Houston's overall economy. The big time oil execs have been riding off our poor backs for a long time. Nice to have a break.

Houstons economy? More like the whole state of Texas' economy. Anyone who things Houston is the only one affected by lower gas prices is severely mislead.

Right now the Saudis are flooding the market with oil in hopes to drop the prices low enough so that the American fracking industry can no longer profitably produce oil from its wells..
