Either the big wigs like Dallas better or they don't want the HQ to be close to their main operations.

Let me stop you there. Houston is more important to Exxon. Thats where most of their work is done.

I think DV is right. I don't think Exxon wants their HQ and their operations side by side.

Dallas is a great city... Houston is just better. Not too hard to understand.

Now that is subjective. You prefer Houston and that's cool, but ill take Dallas and DFW.

If Dallas and Houston were food, Dallas would be white rice and boiled turkey with no seasoning. Houston would be cajun style rice with sausage, spices, shrimp, and crablegs.

Just kidding, I love Dallas. Just a little joke dallasboi style!

Thats an interesting question. I remember there was talk about them moving their hq's down to the new woodlands campus they're building, but they decided to stay in Irving. Exxon moved their headquarters from NY in 1989. They had a few floors in the Exxon building in Rockefeller center. Obviously the rent was very expensive, and there was little reason to remain New York. The chairman at the time sums it up like this:

Quote:
the Dallas area offered the best combination of factors from the standpoint of our employees' personal and professional lives and from an overall business standpoint
So I guess that if your a rich executive, Dallas is a very attractive city. Nice neighborhoods, cheap mansions, great schools, good social scene, great weather, and its only an hours flight away from all the real operations in Houston.
