Invited by White House, Rawlings pitches Dallas to funds looking to invest in public infrastructure | Dallas Morning News

Quote:
Treasury Secretary Jack Lew opened the meeting. “Secretary Lew said there was a trillion-dollar gap in infrastructure through 2020. A trillion dollars,” Rawlings said. “In that room, there was $7 trillion of money. How do we mobilize that capital to make the dreams of Dallas come true?”

Dallas’s track record at attracting private funds, sometimes from out of the country, to pay for its big-ticket infrastructure is among the longest in the country

Houston economist: home prices to stagnate for several years - Prime Property
Quote:
Last week, longtime Houston economist said Barton Smith said Houstonians would have to be naïve to think the area will avoid a housing downturn following the collapse in oil prices.

“One of the things we’ll see for the next six months is the significant slowdown in employment growth, and that will have an impact on the housing market,” he said in an interview reacting to the news that this area had been hit with its biggest drop in home sales since last spring.

Houston sees Ellington spaceport in near future - Houston Chronicle

Quote:
Houston aviation officials said Tuesday the city will likely obtain a spaceport license by early this summer from the Federal Aviation Administration for Ellington Airport.

"Before July we are very optimistic that you'll be living in a city with a spaceport as part of its infrastructure," said Arturo Machuca, general manager of Ellington Airport.

...

Machuca mentioned the likelihood of a contract with a company to manufacture drones, and hopes to eventually bring spacecraft building enterprises as well to Houston.

As the Buffalo Bayou Partnership finishes projects, it presses on with others - Houston Chronicle

Quote:
While fundraising continues on the East End project, the $8 million raised so far has come from public/private partnerships and foundations, corporations and private individuals willing to open their wallets for a good cause.

What's already taken 10 years, Olson says, were time-consuming negotiations with 19 property owners to gain permission to construct the trails through their land. But, she says, "they began cooperating as they saw what we are trying to do."

Greater Houston Partnership downtown office building construction permits filed - Houston Business Journal

Quote:
The building is part of a larger $175 million project — paid for by a combination of public and private funds — that includes a 1,900-space parking garage and improvements to the convention center and Avenidas de las Americas.

McStravick said that the foundation was laid three weeks ago, and will support a hotel with up to 400 rooms on top of the office building. He said Houston First is in talks with a potential developer and hopes to announce something in two to three months.

The Menil in Houston to break ground on Menil Drawing Institute Friday - Houston Business Journal

Quote:
The Menil Collection will break ground on its first new art building in almost 20 years March 27 in a first step toward expanding the museum's campus.

The Menil Drawing Institute will be 30,150 square feet and will include a gallery and space for the study, preservation, research and storage of drawings, making it the first of its kind in the U.S. solely devoted to the medium.

Also included in the $40 million for the first phase will be a new energy house to power the main art buildings, new green space and the extension of West Main Street around the institute on a block that currently dead-ends.

Pro Teck Valuation Services, Arch Mortgage Insurance Co. express mixed opinions on whether oil downturn will affect home values in Houston - Houston Business Journal

Quote:
Pro Teck Valuation Services released its February home value forecast report, which found that, with the exception of the 1980s, Houston home prices have steadily increased over the past 40 years, despite several oil cycles. The Waltham, Massachusetts-based residential real estate valuation company said a diverse economy helps stabilize home prices. Since the devastating oil bust of the 1980s, the Bayou City has expanded its economy and now boasts a booming health care industry.
