That place would be Kickapoo. I think there is still one near the Maplewood/Kemp/Call Field area. And ironically, it may well be named for that small airport in south WF.

By the way, gang, I have a few favorites, and one of them is right here in North Texas, but they have a few locations. It's Catfish O'Harlies. Wonderful fried catfish and all of the fixins; they're all fantastic. Great pinto beans. And they also have a great salad bar, too, if you desire "rabbit food" to complement your meal. That would probably stand out as my top favorite.

I also like the David Beard Catfish King chain that is all over the place. The closest one to my place is in Denton, but I'll also stop at the one in Tyler on Beckham. I'll have to make it a point to try Vaughn's, too.

And also, there's Catfish and Company in Hurst. Absolutely phenomenal catfish with endless hush puppies and great sides. Honorable mention goes to Catfish Sam's in Arlington. I haven't been there in years, but my mom still loves it.

Catfish Parlor on E. Ben White Blvd. in Austin is really good, as is the Cherry Creek Catfish Company on Manchaca/Stassney, also in Austin.

Okay, troops, let 'er rip!
Well, I actually wish there WERE such a thing as good catfish eaten at a restaurant. I grew up on wild-caught yellowcat from the river/fishing lease not far from Del Rio.

I have never ever had a decent piece of restaurant catfish, so it will be interesting to hear the replies you get.

It's even hard to get decent farm-raised catfish at the market to take home and cook yourself.

I wish....

I hate to say it, but the best catfish I know of is served JUST across the Red River (from Wichita Falls) in Oklahoma at a place called "Bill's Catfish." Personally, I think Texas should negotiate a deal with the okies and have that place declared to be on Lone Star soil...

But anyway, in Texas? I gotta think about that one a bit, Case...but I definitely agree with you that fried catfish is a sweet bit of Texas eatin! In fact, I listed it as one of the items on that "A Texans Last Meal" thread!

I like Catfish Corner in Abilene. Also like Perini's in Buffalo Gap. The absolute best was Cahoot's in Abilene, but it closed a few months ago.

I haven't been yet, but my husband likes the Catfish Parlour in Austin (Car957's post). He said it also has the best coleslaw he's ever tasted, and he usually doesn't like coleslaw at restaurants.

Huck's in Denison TX is good.......it used to be out at Texoma but moved into town on the highway a few months ago. There's another Huck's somewhere around VanAlstyne that I hear is just as good.
