Hey, what do y'all think of the new general issue license plates? They're certainly boring, but they'll be a lot easier to read. I have a specialty plate, so it doesn't matter to me, but I'm just randomly curious what folks think about the new ones...

The article that led me to them is here:
New classic Texas license plates hitting the streets, others under review - San Antonio Express-News

Here's the info page at the TxDMV website about it:

If I move back this year or early next year, I hope I can get the 2009 plates. I LOVE those plates!

While I understand the reason that they went to the plain and simple design, I want the existing ones with the mountain on them.

I like the Classic Plates. If I can get them at no extra charge then I'm game. If not, forget it. Once I'm in my car I can't see those plates so the real value to me is fairly innocuous.

I like them. The 1999 - 2008 plates are my favorite (still have them on my car.) The 2009 seemed a bit tacky and ugly and I was glad I didn't have to put them in my car.

Love The Texas Classic! I've been unhappy ever since it went away - looked like we were trying to emulate the plates of other states, when all we really need is the State of Texas and the numbers.

Totally agree - I think the 2009 design looks cheap and cheesy. The new design is a little bit better (kind of boring though), but the '99 - '08 plates have them both beat!

The purpose of license plates is to identify the car, not to be decorative, so i say "The easier to read, the better."

I like the retro look, I actually hate the dark Lone Star Plates, the lighter ones are a bit more pleasing to the eye though.
