Surprised no-one got the message with the new plates introduced at this moment in time. 2009 was optimism, 2012 is austerity in Texas.

Black-and-white is as austere as it comes.

Even white lettering on a black background would be an improvement. How come all of these smaller states can come up with artistic, practical plates, but not us?

That new plate is seriously boring!....lol.

For some reason I always liked the one they had back in the mid 1990's. It was simple but it looked good IMO, here's a sample of one from 1995:

Here's the website for the image:

I love the retros. Understated is way better than cluttered crap found on most plates.

I like the new ones. Simple and good looking. Also like that one from 90s above.

The new ones are great! Simple and straightforward. My favorite is anything prior to 2000 but I'll settle for up to2008 as well. The 2009 ones are ugly!

This is much much better than the 2009 plates.

I think it says a lot about Texas when it is secure enough to just put the state in big block script and a row of numbers, instead of all the cursive fonts, elaborate pastel colors and websites.

Texas has the only plate that actually looks like it came from a sovereign state and not some snot nosed DMV worker.

I don't like the new plates; they're boring.

I have the 'Panoramic Texas' plate on my car and I like it.

License Plate information

Nowadays you can get a specialty plate for anything...Freebirds and Dr Pepper have their own Texas plates. So does Coppell High School (weird) and Dale Earnhardt (why).
