I don't disagree with you that meth is a problem; however, as I read threads all over this forum meth is a problem in a LOT of areas and states. And certainly Morgan County doesn't have a monopoly <sigh>. I think you can partially blame the old Tenncare for some of the pill abuse in the state. What a sorry state of affairs.

Yeah I've been reading all over these boards and I see that a lot of people talk about meth being a problem in their city/town. It's sad that people have nothing else to do with their time so they resort to drugs. Morgan County, though, there is nothing there so thats the "perfect" reason for people to use. May take a person anywhere from 30-45 minutes (depending on where you live) to get to a Walmart or the nearest hospital. But since it's such a cheap drug to make, people are just going crazy with it. Tenncare, oh yes that's the big reason for those abusing pills. I'm not a drug user, but I know several people who don't work, have tenncare and go to their dr complain of pain, and then they have an easy prescription. Then they don't care at all to ruin a teenager's life so they sell them a pill then that kid is getting hooked. It's a sad cycle and it's only getting worse.

Yeah, it is REALLY sad. Drugs of all kinds, including pain killers are really bad here in Florida too.

I was in Sevier County yesterday and passed by their police station. They had a big van type vehicle parked there (expensive looking) and it said something like Mobile Meth Crime Unit or something like that on the side. How sad that it is what it is.

emmesmomma, Don't kid yourself into thinking jobs are easy to get on the west coast. Unemployment here is huge. Thousands are being laid off each week. Our unemployment now in Sacramento is something like 8% and in many counties it is in the double digits. Many people have been looking for work for 6 months to a year. This economic downturn is just as bad here as anywhere else in the country. Don't trade unemployment in an economical place to live for unemployment in an expensive place to live.

What city/area in Tennessee has the LOWEST crime rate? The highest? I find crime rates but they're usually a couple of years old.

My sister lives in Moreno Valley, about 70 miles from L.A.
Here husband works in an oil refinery. The company is thinking about closing some of the oil refineries so that there will be less production of oil, and that will drive up the price again.
He's expecting his pink slip anytime.
Also, my sister just got a notice from the state. It said to apply for their tax rebate check within 10 days of receipt of that letter. The state will then send them out a voucher for the amount owed.
However, they can't spend the voucher until the state says that they have the money to pay the vouchers.

Watch Deliverance and if you feel like you would be the prey ie Burt Reynolds, Jon Voight etc then East Tennessee is not for you. On the other hand if you are more like the hunters were in that movie- whoopie you're in hog heaven!

Just kidding - can't even remember the movie might have been about Alabama anyway.

Actually, it was North Georgia.

And in case it's not clear enough by your disclaimer on the bottom, I'll confirm that Deliverance has no bearing on reality whatsoever.
