WOW!! Just logged on and read all this. I am blown away. I have never made a secret, actually stated it several times to show where the information is coming from, that I am a mortgage loan officer. I also have said I am not here on this site to do business, but to help others move here who don't know anyone here as I had to do. I give referrals, and no, I do not get anything in return for those referrals, to anyone who asks as I do know who is good and who is not here in this area because of what I do for a living.
I have met some of you in person from this forum, I believe you can attest that I have not asked you to get your mortgage from me. I help everyone, whether you come here to buy or rent, even if you are paying cash for your new home here or just visiting. I was asked to be a moderator because you all appreciated the information I gave and my reputation points showed that and the administrator noticed it and asked. I do not delete any posts because I disagree with them, I can not do that. Believe me, some times I wish I could! No I do not get paid nor am I business wise affiliated with City-Data forum in any way.
Yes, I am "all about TN" because I have lived elsewhere and did not like it and I LOVE TN, faults and all and would not imagine raising my children anywhere else.
As with anyone here on this forum, you can take or leave what I have to say.

Default Moved from Florida to Tenn

I love Tennessee. Moved out of Florida..higher taxes..higher insurance...flocks of retirees.....expensive Real Estate...now living
on 3 acres on top of Signal Mountain and pay hardly any taxes. It is gorgeous here. I love the outdoors, hiking, nature and all so it's perfect. Yes, hot in summer but i is everywhere. Winters not that bad..not much snow.
BUT EMPLOYMENT SUCKS and unless you ae transferred from someone to here, this place is not hospitable.

Not FREEZING winter, or SCORCHING summers)...but there has to be some reason NOT to live there?

I am highly considering a move to Tenn for my family (2 children- would be highschool and elementary by that time). I would like this to be the last move of my life. While I know that no place is perfect, I like to be able to have everything disclosed, and then I can way my options regarding what I would prioritize.
Thanks for all of your help!
I moved to Tenn. as a single parent in 1994. I have loved living here and have always felt very safe. I live in a small town with a country feel not far from Cherokee National Forest. You can be in Ga. in less than 30 mins.. and in North Carolina in One hours time. Alabama is only a short drive. Eastern Tennessee is one of the most beautiful areas that I have ever been in.

There are 7 states (I think) that borders Tn. So that does not really help the crime stats here. A Ga. resident can run over the state line and when apprehended in Tn. the crime is listed here. So I would not trust the crime stats.

My insurance (home)is about $1,046.00 a yr. Auto for 2004 Focus is $541.14. Property tax is around $750 to $800. a year.
There is no state tax so the sales tax is a little high. (9.25)
There is not tax to pay on auto each year like in some states. You pay $28.00 for a tag sticker.

As far as jobs, I did not have a problem getting work. I guess it depends on what type of work you are looking for.

I live with-in three block of the elem. school and 2 miles from the high school and I have never heard of any trouble. Life here is quit and peaceful.

I could not really fine any reason that you and your family would not be happy here.

I have wrote all of this and feel a little sad that I will be leaving this area soon. My home is on the market and I will be looking the the Northeasten Pa. area. My kids have all moved away and I plan to move close to my daughter and grandkids.

Eastern Tennessee could never be a bad choice.
I hope that this will helps and if I can help with other questions feel free to ask.

mbmouse....I love your postings! I think they are very fair and informative. Even though I love North Carolina, we thinking about eastern Tenn as a place to move also, I'm using this forum to get as much information as I can about both places. We have been to eastern Tenn and it is beautiful there too. So count me as someone else who appreciates you!! Also the pictures have posted are wonderful!!!! I really enjoy those.

Homeowners insurance is $1,046? This seems expensive..is all of TN as high to insure your home?

If you seriously value things like racial diversity, culture, liberal social atmosphere, competitiveness, over no state income tax, friendly people (at least superficially), gorgeous mountains and lakes, etc., eastern Tennessee might not be your place. I moved from MA to eastern TN, and I have to admit there ARE great things here. But I do not feel like I'm keeping up with the times anymore, surrounded by bunch of nice but naive people.

When you hit the roads in eastern TN,

1. There are MANY pickup trucks on local roads (which is natual considering many farmlands around), and I find some of them drive needlessly aggressively.

2. IMO, there are more aggressive drivers on the roads than in the northeast. I hope they do not practice what they saw at Bristol Motor Speedway.

3. There are junky cars that should have been scrapped still running on the roads, as no statewide forced annual inspection program exists. You save some money but the road becomes more dangerous.

4. I-81 (eastern TN and VA section) is full of trailer trucks all day and night. A lot higher frequency than I used to see on I-84, I-90, I-91, and I-95.
