Like I mentioned, I don't fit the definition of a bigot...........

I am a white woman married to a black man, nope - no bigot here.

For your small minded self, here is the definition of a bigot, since you OBVIOUSLY do not know what bigot means.......

A bigot is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of any opinions differing from their own or intolerant of people of different political views, ethnicity, race, class, religion, profession, sexuality or gender.

yeah i saw Ballwin was the only STL suburb in Money Magazines Best Places to Live released today. All I thought was WTF. Ummmm Ladue, Frontenac, Chesterfield, Creve Coeur, Clayton, Webster Groves. I guess diversity and declining property values make a place a good place to live. Maybe money magazine's is trying to appeal a diverse middle class. But this is St. Louis c'mon.

-26 male grew up in Creve Coeur now live in Southampton and love it. I do not go east of kingshighway unless I have a really good reason to (home depot).

Yeah, its 4 years old, but;
Estimated median house or condo value in 2009: $234,214 (it was $155,800 in 2000)
Estimated median household income in 2009: $78,599 (it was $66,458 in 2000)
Crime rate under 100 as of 2011 (unheard of - probably lower than, or at minimum equal to Ladue, Frontenac, etc but don't feel like checking right now) - 319 is AVERAGE

Yeah, Ballwin is really in the crapper. (rolling my eyes)

South Hampton, however, has a crime index of 146 for the month of July - 132 for June. Pretty low for a city neighborhood, but still worse than Ballwin.

Oh, and "best places to live" takes some stupid statistics and compiles their list. They are useless.

So I logged in after a couple of months and reading that Crestwood Mall took a nose dive. Jamestown Mall seems to be the next in line as Macy's is shutting down it's doors. Northwest Plaza already went to crappers.

What the heck is going on?

Well the years of robbing Peter to pay Paul may be catching up to a lot of STL County munis. For decades County munis were poaching residents, sales tax rev, and businesses from one another. Plus the developed land in the STL area increased 250% last decade while the population only increased 4%. This is an unsustainable approach and until the region can contain sprawl and work together as a region it will only get worse. Ironically the places that seem to be doing better are STL City and inner ring burbs.

IMO - Ballwin is one of the most bland and boring places in all of America.

Brickmama is correct that the St. Louis metro area has been spreading itself too thin and poaching off itself for way too long, which is a huge problem in itself, but the deaths of these malls also has a lot to do with the changing nature of retail nationwide. Traditional malls are simply not able to compete with the online marketplace and are, frankly, outdated. The modern consumer wants to purchase goods in the least amount of time and with the least amount of hassle possible and malls just don't deliver that. Going to the mall is usually a stressful, unproductive event and a lot of people just won't do it anymore.

But yes, Ballwin is awful. In the coming struggle that the County is going to have to engage in to attract the newer, younger population it needs to actually grow, Ballwin is not going to be one of the winners.

This thread is ridiculous, and reflects the attitudes of most waspy St. Louisans. I did not grow up here, but recently moved here and was very ubpleasantly surprised by the lack of culture and blatant segregation.

Example: In NYC and Chicago, public transportation is for everyone. In St. Louis, the middle and upper class wouldn't be caught dead on the Metrolink. So strange.

This is really weird. A new 2 bedroom condo in Chesterfield is listed for almost $600K. Yes, 2 bedrooms!!
I am baffled. Is this a bubble ready to burst?
