MLS has a long-enough history now - they've got to drop these ridiculous copy cats names of European teams.

DC United - what teams is DC a union of?

Houston Dynamo - name yourself after an entity synonymous with the KGB?

Real Salt Lake - what's the royal connection for salt lake city? Joseph Smith?

Sporting KC - generic - Sporting Lisbon has tons of sports under its umbrella

even the FC that tons of teams use is off. Seattle Sounders SC would be so much more alliteratively elegant.

Sporting said that they would add more to their umbrella, although I'm not sure if that has actually gone anywhere .... overall, I'm fine with their name

A lot of the names are kind of annoying though

I'd rather see "SC" than "FC"

"Real" just doesn't make any sense

Philadelphia Union I'm fine with as they are trying to play to the union of the 13 colonies and philadelphias place at that time

By and large though most teams have avoided it:

Fire, Crew, Revolution, Impact, Union, Rapids, Galaxy, Timbers, Earthquakes

Sounders & Whitecaps would be improved if "FC" wasn't on their logo - but overall not bad

I understand Chivas USA

FC Dallas and Toronto FC are just horrible and unimaginative and really don't even sound good.

Real Salt Lake sounds decent, Houston Dynamo sounds decent, DC United is bleh and I don't mind Sporting KC - even if 2 make absolutely no sense and the other has seemingly yet to show how sporting they are

Then there are the Red Bulls...............

FC is fine. "Soccer" brings scorn from the foreigners.

Otherwise I agree, its a big thing that turned me off of MLS for a while.

Who cares? I'd be more concerned about the domestic appeal.

Even with that I can live with it as far as Seattle & Vancouver as it's an add on ........ but it's just awful with Dallas & Toronto as it is their brand - especially dallas given all the other stuff they could do that would resonate and the popularity of american football in the area

Most of the MLS teams are more creative.

New England Revolution, Philadelphia Union, Montreal Impact(is this a euro copy?), Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids, San Jose Earthquakes, Portland Timbers.

There is only two names I hate
Real Salt Lake - Because they gave themselves the Real name
Sporting Kansas City - Mainly because theyre the teenage girls of the league with the amount of name changes.

I think Toronto has the best name, just their city and none of this "earthquake" or "dynamo", I agree that Philly union is a nice one.
