The city council voted to increase the millage rate from 2.9% to 3.34% The increase is expected to raise about $1 million dollars.
As predicted, an easy way to get around that pesky constitution amendenment giving us an additional $25,000 homestead exemption [on government operations] Raise the millage rate to make up the difference in lost revenue.

we need a tax revolution where we drag the tax monsters out into the streets.

all tax raises should have to be voted on by the people not shoved down our throats. the tax monster is attacking everywhere. they attacked me here in texAss raising my taxes 271% in one year. LIBERTARIAN REVOLUTION NOW!!! KICK THE DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS OUT OF OFFICE AT ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT.

To reduce your taxes GET INVOLVED. Attend meetings and see which elected officials seem to want to spend and which want to save.
Can you see places where money can be saved?
Of course the NP government had to raise the millage rate. Most importantly the house assessments must have gone down. The same services have to be provided so millage rate goes up.
That does not mean taxes go up if your home decreased in assessed value.

And you also have the opportunity to challenge your assessment at the county level.

they need to stop wasting money instead of raising taxes. maybe they could legalize pot then cut the cop force in half. the tax dollars from the legalization of marijuana would bring in millions and the savings in police man hours would be great. use the cops to serve and protect, not to micromanage the personal lives of adults.

Everyone agrees with that statement, that's what every politician says to get elected.

But WHERE do you cut? Every voter has a different idea of what is important and what stuff they don't care about. That's why elections happen.

If you've ever been associated with an HOA (Home Owners Association) you've seen politics at a very basic level. The people elected spend money the way THEY want to and there isn't a lot of saving going on. Enlarge that to the county or state or national level and it will blow your mind. It helps not to think about it if you want to sleep at night :-)
