What I dislike most about San Jose is that it lacks uniqueness/originality....nothing here that really makes it stand out from any other city. Sorry, just a small town trying to act big.
More like, it's a small town that got big, and never had leadership that was competent in managing big cities.

Cowtown - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But SJ is a pleasant place all in all if you prefer that class of a city.
Doesn't San Francisco's claimed arena (actually in Daly City) host the Grand National Rodeo? It's even named the Cow Palace. That's pretty backwoods of you, Cletus.

What's more, people seem to think simply being big is merit in itself. There are more interesting qualities of SJ like having the most patents among its populace and having the greatest number of foreign-born residents to enhance the range of cultures on display. However, some just rest of "10th biggest" as if that means anything in itself.

Fair enough Sonarrat. Leadership/vision is probably the key thing missing. The Valley is blessed with incredible weather, space, young/educated people, etc.....but it just can't seem to pull itself out of the shadow of San Francisco. Maybe its inevitably doomed to be the 2nd city of the Bay, but sure seems like there is potential for more.

Know there are efforts to bring the A's and 49'ers to the South Bay, but even that is kind of pathetic (saw something about giving them a name like the SF 49ers of Santa Clara Valley...thats okay for Anaheim since its really just a large suburb of LA, but come on San Jose can't even get its name on a sports team?). The A's coming down to San Jose (or Giants for that matter) has always been more of a threat to SF/Oakland than a reality in my opinion.

Funny how Daly City has the Cow Palace, but San Jose is the big Cowtown. San Francisco though remains what it is: a world class city.

Number of patents doesn't propel a city to world-class status, but it sure does seem to popularize those hideous Ugg boots.

The weather is the best part of SJ, along with its proximity to SF. Stick with that.

The 49ers won't make the move because Santa Clara won't fund it, so it's stupid to speculate about the name. As for the A's, the threats are more real than they've ever been. Owners don't want to invest in Oakland, let alone the Hegenberger area. The lone roadblock are the Giants, who seemingly won't survive without Santa Clara County support. Neukom and Baer keep mentioning how they financed their stadium with the backing of SV business and how it would be devastating to tear that away from them. Big city can't even support its teams. That's what a homogeneous, transient population will do for you.

Make up your convoluted mind - is it a nerd haven, or a hicktown? Diametrically opposed descriptions.

San Jose is a nerd haven and a hicktown (geeks, goobers, and gomers) ...you're paying attention. Don't forget the Ugg boots.

When you can't handle the message, you San Jose folks try to kill the messenger...again to no avail. San Jose is what it is.

Maybe some do, some don't. Who cares? I don't. Say what you will about SF.
