So I was driving home from the Union City WalMart at around 1130 and this guy just tailgates me--the freeway is not busy and he is like right on my @ss. So I try to move and he moves and then he turns off his headlights-then turns on his highbeam..and so I go up to 80MPH and he follows me all the way to 92 and thet he gets off.

Then as I pass Hegenberger these 2 exotic cars just zip by at well over 100MPH...but wait, a beat up Ford Aerostar seems to be chasing them.

So I wondered??Hmmm...Is 880 full of idiots or what?

Apparently people even make vids of this freeway...

It's 880 in the east bay. Not surprising in the least. People have been shot for nothing on that free way.

In short, yes this is the stupidest freeway in the world IMO. I have been saying that for years, and its particularly bad in the stretch you just mentioned - from around Union City to San Lorenzo. I used to work right there at Union Landing and commute from Daly City, and it blew my mind how idiotic the drivers there are. I even had a co-worker there admit to me that he doesn't even look or signal when he switched lanes, and immediately after I began to notice that was kind of the norm over there. There's no courtesy, no merging skills, no lane-changing skills....you name it, they suck at it. I don't understand how this stretch of freeway is so much worse than in any other part of the Bay, but somehow it manages. 580 near Castro Valley can get a bit like this once in a while too, but never as bad as 880.

880 and 238 are just another fine example of decaying underfunded 1960's California infrastructure. Back when California could actually afford to provide these things. Now it is just a joke.

Hi 18Montclair...

I was just thinking the same thing on the way home after a month of driving the Autobahn in Germany... parts of which still have no speed limit.

Many drivers are totally undisciplined, weaving in and out of traffic and passing on the right.. both of which will get you a ticket in Germany.

It really was culture shock to be back home

Sounds like possible insurance scammers. Trying to induce an accident.

I kind of like I-580 and I-80 Berkeley to Richmond where you are traelling East and West at the same time

The two right lanes are so bumpy and trashed it gives me a headache to stay in those lanes. Then you move over the left and you have to be going 95 MPH to avoid getting tailgated and even then you'll get tailgated. Full of pot holes, swerving trucks and crazy drivers. I hate 880.

I always wonder if 880 from High Street to 5th Av is reflective of CalTrans opinion of Oakland.

Because its the worst kept stretch of highway I know of in the Bay. Just horrible.
