This year I have noticed a weird trend. Freeway drivers have slowed down about 20%.

I mainly take 880 and 580. And it seems like every time I get on the freeway and head over to the fast lane, I need to hit the brakes. People are traveling at 65-68 mph. In the fast lane. Getting on the freeway is impossible as well. Cars in the first lane are going 45-50.

If you want to hit 70 you need to cross your fingers and try your luck in lane 2 or 3. Anyone noticed similar?

More traffic overall, so people are inclined to drive slower to avoid stop/go traffic?

I am talking when there is no traffic and the weather is clear and sunny. Basically when there is no reason to go lower than the speed limit.

Haven't really noticed this, either. I am usually on 880, 680, 580, and 237.

I don't use those freeways, but this is normal around the downtown SJ area. If you are able to go 65 in the slow lane, you are flying.

580 from San Leandro to Oakland is like Sunday Driving Central...no one ever seems like theyre in a rush.

880 not so much imo.

How about you respect human life and drive the speed limit?

FYI: There is some leeway on the speed limit. On the freeway, I travel at 70-75.

On surface streets I stick pretty close to the speed limit, usually slower, especially in school or residential areas.

Speeding =/= reckless driving. Tailgating, driving faster than the conditions allow are all signs of reckless driving. Driving 75 and leaving 8 car lengths between you an the next person is not a problem.

Typical patterns in the Bay Area for highway speeds are 75-80 on the fast lane. I am noticing that people appear to be going slower than the typical patterns. I am noticing the fast lane is traveling at the speed limit and the other lanes are below the speed limit. I haven't seen this happen before.
