I work very close to that address...I would say it's not good or safe, I think the detox place is right around there somewhere (or used to be), and alot of homeless congregate.

I wouldn't say that area is that bad, especially considering all the expensive condos that have gone up right in that immediate area. If someone willing is paying $500K to live in that area then its probably not that bad. It's urban, so you'll have some homeless and undesirables but its not what I would call "ghetto". Although the people in the building might be trashy the immediate area is decent for the price. I've walked around that area and have never felt unsafe.

ok then ill give it a try cause for $600 a month im not going to find anything else around San Diego, and especially not that close to the bay. and if people will spend $500k to live there then i suppose i can be their neighbor and spend $600 bucks..... i dont mind homeless people as long as they dont break into my car and steal. as far as a few undesirables: i can hold my own so im not too worried about that. i just need a place to live. i know the job market is terrible but are there jobs available in downtown near there? im not picky any job would do

it's a cute little victorian next to a bunch of halfway houses and detox centers. If you wont have to park on the street it probably isn't that bad. Homequest is right there which is a bum / tweaker hangout.

OK, I guess you just believe what you want to hear. I'm looking out at 10th and B right now. There are some new condos being built nearby (as yet unfinished) but that area is very commercial and like I said, the buildings right there are not good. You seem like a nice kid, so I'd hate to see you end up in a flophouse building (for $600 I can't help but think that's what it will be). But it's on the trolley line, and close to the Gaslamp and the nightlife there. But DT San Diego, one block can be upscale and the next block desolate and bad.

"Flophouse building" is important for you to understand. A flophouse means tweakers (meth addicts) live there. It means prostitutes work there. And wherever you have tweakers and 'tutes, you have gangsters making money off it all.

Don't kid yourself. Do you have any experience living in a city?

600 bucks... get a roomate... and the freedom to move out in a few months. Don't sign a lease on a 600 dollar apartment.

I agree, you'd be better of taking a chance on a crummy roommate living in Pacific Beach than living in a bad area downtown by yourself.

First, are you a guy or a girl? As bad as it sounds, guys can take a little grit a little more safely than girls can. But they're right when they say that area is still "up and coming." LOL!

As for the proximity to the bay, it's not the bay you would swim in. It's the harbor. Mission Bay, where people go to swim, is still pretty far away. And you won't have a water view from there, so don't be fooled by advertising.

I'd probably go with the "get a roommate" from Craigslist and move to a better area. If you're young and want the San Diego experience, just get a roommate(s) and live at the beach.

I don't know about halfway houses and detox centers, but it's literally across the street from Vantage Pointe condo tower. Couldn't be that bad?

Also, 600/month would the absolute cheapest apartment in downtown. Perhaps it's a scam?
