Yeah you could do that and it would be ok, to be honest thats what I do alot too. I would stay away from the windex tho -- maybe a bit too harsh for the plastic on dvd's and some may get inside the player. Its a judgement call tho -- 10$ kit cleans a few hundred cd/dvd's safely.

I've always used alcohol and a soft cloth and make sure to rub from the center to the edge and never in circles or in a circle around the cd. It works pretty well.

Anyhoo, thank you so much for the fantastic info. I've never lived near a great library system before. One of the very first things I am going to do is go find some libraries. ha ha. I'm so excited! Sorry I am just now posting...I had to evacuate for the hurricane. Thanks so much !!!
