I lived in one, but not in San Diego, it was when I lived in Chico for three years. The mobile home that I lived in with my ex had a yard full of rocks. He took them out, and put in grass. The only reason we had a yard was because we had an end unit. You don't get much of a yard at all, and no backyard - maybe a little bit of gravel, no grass. The cost depends on the mobile home. When you find one that you're interested in buying, you have to talk to the MH managers, and they'll tell you what paperwork that you have to bring to them, and in turn they'll fax it to the owner to qualify living in the MH park. No matter which park you're interested in living, you'll have to qualify to live there.

You won't have any property tax like a house - you'll get a registration every year from DMV. The newer the mobile home, the more it costs, just like car. If you have a double wide, you'll get two registrations, with a single wide, you'll get one. You'll have to get it inspected, and do a title transfer, along with everything else that you have to put in your name.

To find out how much they cost, just do a Google search for mobile homes for sale in San Diego. When you look at that information, it should answer your questions about living in one.

So a mobile home is basically a vehicle. Do you get a mailing address? If you are drunk in a MH or an RV, can you get arrested for a DUI?

I also wonder what the noise situation is like. Living so close to the neighbors, window-to-window, do you hear their TV and music all the time?

A mobile home is in a park, and it's just like living in a house. An RV is mobile, and you have to keep moving around if you live in it. When you move into a mobile home, the home has no wheels. Each park is different on how close you are to your neighbor. You can't get arrested for a DUI in a mobile home because it's in a mobile home park and doesn't move, but you can in an RV.

Your mailing address at a mobile home park is just like living in an apartment, but instead of an apartment number, you have a space number. So instead of Apt #1, you have Space #1.

That's to be discussed with the mobile home park manager, and the owner has the right to accept or reject you. It's not an apartment, and you can't buy one until you're approved.

It depends. Yeah, there are some cheap places to put down a mobile home in east county, some decent places scattered from Mira Mesa to Santee, and some absolutely amazing places on Mission Bay but personally I couldn't live in a mobile home.

It's like anything else. They have their advantages and disadvantages. The one that I lived in was full of nosy busybodies.
