Can some of you locals that have lived in the area for a while post your experiences or referrals for a good insurance company for property insurance in the SD area? It's been a while since I've bought property insurance in the USA since I sold all my property before the real estate crash. I'm getting ready to dip my toes back in the water....

I know sometimes in certain areas, there are dominant players with insurance companies. Some that have bad reputations on honoring claims, etc. I'm looking for a top flight company to insure my house with that we'll be buying in the next few months.

Can you post some experiences with companies that you are using that you are happy with? Or if you aren't happy that would be useful as well to avoid them.

Thanks in advance.

PS - I'd gladly accept advice on good car insurance companies as well.

If you can, because they cater to military and military family members, look into USAA, their rates are reasonable and they are very responsive. I bank with them as well.

Thanks MovingAloha but I don't think I quality as I don't meet the military criteria. I went on their website under home insurance but it looks like only people in the military or family members of military quality.
