Hi,

I am thinking about attending SDSU for my MBA to focus on entrepreneurship... at first to help existing corporations create new business ventures then perhaps go on my own. I also got into USD... but I wasn't awarded a satisfactory financial aid package so I won't be attending. I would like to stay in consumer products (my current industry).

I tried searching up and could really only find 2 companies that I recognize: Sony Electronics and Qualcomm.

I know, San Diego isn't known for big business, but I was thinking this would be a great (and kind of expensive, at first) chance to live there while investing in myself. SDSU has a pretty good graduate entrepreneurship program.. used to be ranked in the top 25 in the nation a couple years back. Anyone else know any big name companies in and around San Diego (like 3M, Pepsi, Nike.. anything that is known). I've worked with 3 fortune 500's so I would like to continue the trend if possible.

Thanks for any input!

Isn't Petco's corporate office here? I think BumbleBee Tuna still keeps an office in San Diego, but don't make it well known. There are several corporations in the Kearny Mesa area near Ruffin Rd, but I can't remember their names.

Here's a list of San Diego's largest employers:
San Diego Source > San Diego's Top Influentials | SourceBook

There are only two (I think) Fortune 500 companies based here:
Qualcomm & Sempra Energy (SD Gas & Electric)

Lots of companies have divisions based here (Sony is an example) with corporate HQ somewhere else.

On the morning news NBC 7/39, when have their financial news segment, the guy usually goes over stocks from a selected group of local companies. If you watch this segment for a couple of weeks, you'll get some ideas.

Cool, thanks for your help guys! The company doesn't have to be HQ'd in SD, just as long as they a branch in the area. I am considering future potential internships is all.

Feel free to list private companies too for example: Ernst and Young also has an office there (even though I don't plan on doing any type of consulting).

Thanks again, I'll continue to look as well.
