Huh????? I could have the best and finest kids on the planet - but if they live in DHS, they gonna get shot or stabbed!!! What does raising your kids have to do with it? Are you gonna raise them to "never go outside", "always wear your bullet-proof vest - even when you're inside", "crawl under the windows so you don't catch a stray bullet" ??? This has NOTHING to do with how you raise your kids - the FACT is ... DHS is a crime-ridden cesspool that isn't safe!

Default Desert Hot Springs vs Coachella

Here is a link that compares the 2 cities in all aspects.
Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

They are both poor with high crime rates though Desert Hot Springs does have a higher crime rate.

While it's obvious DHS has high crime,

In DHS,
you will get murdered once every 5,879 years.
you will get assaulted once every 120 years.
you will be burglarized once every 14 years.

How do you figure? People are being murdered, assaulted, and burglarized on a daily basis in DHS. You should check out our local news outlets.

... or if not the local papers, how's about numbers?

By City-Data's own crime index,DHS is at least better than Detroit, MI. However, DHS is actually worse than such wonderful places ... like Compton, CA, Newark, NJ, or even Gary, IN.

Which means it's not just bad, but REALLY bad.

I used CD's most recent crime stats.

The last murder, assault, or burglary-related article I can find on the Desert Sun on the DHS page was a Nov 25th arrest of an assault suspect.

For a city its size, I find it hard to believe that people are being murdered on a daily basis, the national guard would have to be called in for that!

It's not that low!

Violent crimes (murders + rapes + robberies + assaults) = 276 (0.76 per day).
Property crimes (theft + burgularies + auto) = 1718 (4.71 per day).

All this spread out over a city with just 24k in population.

In comparison, Gary, IN is ...
Violent crimes = 669
Property crimes = 4667

... with 96k population. So 4 times the population, but not 4 times the crime of DHS ... making DHS statistically worse.

Well ..... whatever it is, I steer clear of DHS at all costs! I read all of our local online news sources every day, and there is always some DHS news - mostly bad. I guess you could say ... there's something for everyone!

I pretty much stay out of Indio, Cat City, DHS, Thermal, Mecca, Thousand Palms, most parts of Palm Springs, Salton City, the Cove area of La Quinta ...

Looks like I lead a sheltered life, huh?
