Vacationing at Marriott's Desert Springs Villas I in mid-May. Am I safe in this area for golfing and/or exploring? Will be there with my husband and 20 year old. The more I read the more nervous I get about the rising crime in this area. What areas do we avoid...if any?

You'll be safe there. The local paper has tried to downplay some of the crime happening on El Paseo, but don't wear a bunch of flashy jewels and a $10,000 purse and you should be fine.

You're not safe anywhere in California.

An earthquake could strike today, tomorrow, and?

i've stayed at that resort before and the only thing i was concerned with was getting heat stroke. safety should be one of the least of your concerns.

You will be safe. We have stayed there quite a few times in the past and now we live in the area. It is a beautiful place to stay and in a fairly good neighborhood! Just don't go to Desert Hot Springs or Indio and you will be fine.

We stayed at the Desert Springs Resort last summer and found that area to be pretty nice - lot of good options for golf and some good places to eat ..... you should be fine
