Very sad. Shocking that those fools used that line (and committed the crime) on a young girl.

Cowards.

"KTLA reported that the victim, Ashley Caldera, of Fontana, and a group of her friends were at Northgate Park in the 7800 block of Celeste Avenue when the men opened fire about 11 p.m. Saturday. Paramedics pronounced Caldera dead at the scene."

Often, when I read about stuff like this, it's usually written that someone is out at 1am "getting something to eat" or at a park when it is pitch dark (such as it would be at 11pm). What the he**? Late nights are when troublemakers are out. I don't AT ALL want to blame the victim here.... but where were her parents? Or were there any responsible adults around at all?

Besides, aren't parks usually closed before 11pm?

Just wondering.

Northgate Park hours: 9:00 am - Sunset. But none of the parks are fenced, and there are only so many cops... and there are 49 parks in the city.

I thought about the "where were the parents" and the "11 pm" thing too, but then I thought about if I could have possibly been at a park at 11 pm when I was 16, and the answer was yes.

When I was 16 I was driving from Capistrano to Tustin for the purposes of getting drunk, and staying out later than 11. But not on school nights.

Fontucky - I wonder if our paths ever crossed? I lived in Orange when I was 16. But there were no shootings back then. It seems it is not safe anywhere now. Very sad for her family and friends.

Why? I've managed to eat breakfast, lunch and supper in Fontana over the years with nary so much as a dented fender.
