IMO...

IE doesn't start at the border of LA County and SB County... it starts east of the 15 FWY.

The area between the county border to 15 FWY is what known as the Inland Valley. Cities like RC, Chino, Corona, and Ontario are all Inland Valley cities.

Cites east of the 15 FWY like Fontana, Rialto, Colton, SB, and Riverside would be Inland Empire cities.

High Desert is High Desert... cities like VV, Apple Valley, Hesperia, Phelan, and so on are all High Desert cities.

Some LA County cities have the 909 area code--but by population definition, only areas in SB and Riverside Counties can be considered IE.

Ontario city limits are east of the 15, as are Cucamonga's.

So many versions of what constitutes the IE.

Yap ..... growing up and living in different areas, I remember 714 being the area code. I started out my young life in San Diego, where we had a 714 area code, then onto "the OC" () (That was for 'Tucky! LOL) which at that time was also a 714. After college in L.A. I remember moving to the "ever-so-chic" West Side, where the area code was originally 213, but changed to 310. For some reason, once the area code changed, the people changed. It's like everyone got all snooty and hoity-toity all of a sudden. Same thing with Newport Beach, where I pretty much grew up. It was cool when it was 714, but once it changed to 949 ..... Look Out!!!!! Amazing how an area code change can turn previously "ordinary" folks into a bunch of snobby douchebags!

When the economy improves I am moving to the "IE", which also used to be 714, but is now 951. I just *HOPE* I don't turn into an A-Hole over those three little numbers!!!!!

Just for S&G's, I'm in the CV now, and it is 760, but it also used to be 714. I think I'm still ok though. As far as I know, I haven't turned into a "you-know-what" yet. I'm sure you guys will let me know if I do.

You know you're old if you can remember "dialing" numbers without the area code and the first two letters of your phone exchange were referred to by some word, our 98 number in 714 being YUkonx-xxxx.

We had rotary phones when I was a kid, but I'm not that old!!!

I do remember we only had to dial a 1 + the area code only if we were calling a different area code.

My number in Niguel/DP was 496- By then though the mnemonic identifiers had fallen out of use so we never referred to it as HYacinth. 492 was San Clemente. Your Pacesetters home was 495. Guess we better be careful or this'il be moved to the OC forum.

Bringing this back to the original question, we never referred to Ontario as part of the IE. That was San Bernuhdeeno.
