My husband and I are moving in the fall from NY to San Bernadino. His new co-workers suggested living in Covina. We are early 30's, no kids, no dogs (yet), and looking for a fun yet laid back place to settle. Also, is the commute from Covina to Brentwood (Santa Monica), CA too far for a daily drive? I have a great job opportunity in Brentwood but I am thinking the commute will be way too long. Any suggestions are appreciated. We are looking for a 1 or 2 BD for around $1,500 a month. Are we way off? If Brentwood is too far, are there any places around Covina where Licensed Social Workers can get jobs? I imagine so but thought it would be worth it to ask. Thanks!

All I can say is: You DO NOT want to commute from SB to W.L.A.

One working in SB and one in SM, while living in Covina is two very long commutes, with Covina to SM being the worst. There are lots of nice IE(Inland Empire) places near enough to SB and I'm sure there are Licensed Social Worker jobs in abundance in IE. Your budget of $1500/mo is just fine for any of the middle class IE areas.

covina is far from SB. it's a reverse commute, but still 40 miles each say. remember that gas is still around $4/gallon. i think a better place to live would be redlands. and as others have mentioned, brentwood won't work. i've known people who made similar commutes but they were on the road for 4-5 hours everyday. good luck.

You don't want to live in San Bernardino, period. Live in Lake Arrowhead instead, in the mountains above SB. It's a 25 min. drive to SB. The real estate market has tanked there and you can get a lovely house for 300k.

I work in SB... you do NOT want to live there!!!!

If you don't have a job in Brentwood, I would suggest living in the IE. Living in North San Bernadino is not too bad. North Park is pretty nice are Verdemont, the University District, Arrowhead Country Club. Why waste gas and have a crappy commute? Redlands is nice too.
