Jury Duty/Failure to appear summons (lawyer, home, school)

If my employer paid for jury duty i would glady serve. Its our civic duty & the right thing to do. We need more then retired people & govt employees in the jury pool.

I've never been selected for a courtroom, but wonder if there's any penalty for not participating in the trial.

I mean, you sit in the box and be quiet, but when it comes to finding the defendant guilty or not guilty, you don't even submit a response.

Its ashame ca panders to the public employees, unions & illegals yet only pays a measly 15.00 a day + one way milage. We have a god awful govenor & a horrid legislature who bends over daily for the nasty unions. My local assemlyman paul cook whos a republican voted for the tax extensions. LOSER!!!!

That's one of the primary reasons I hate dealing with courthouses and airports in general.
I do what I do to stay out of there, so why do they feel so vital to drag someone who has nothing to do with it into that dreaded place?

I travel by land and don't go out of the country anyway, so air-travel is easier than snot to avoid.
Courtrooms on the other hand, it just seems that the PTB want everyone to have their yearly dose of what it feels like to be detained.

At least LA County has lockers prior to the metal detectors to keep your non-allowable items in.
SB County courtroom deputies are d!cks to the fullest and tell you to take it back to the car and get back in there on time or they're hunting you down.

steel7, the jury was NOT there "for your sister," they were there as impartial fact-finders. Please try to educate yourself on the basics of our legal system. The jury does not serve for the purpose of convicting the accused, they are there to listen to testimony and look at exhibits and make impartial decisions.

Also, those of you who shirk your duty to serve on a jury... let's just hope someday when you get charged with a crime, perhaps falsely, the people who would have acquitted you also decide to shirk their duty.

If this is the general attitude toward civic duty of people in the IE, no wonder the place is such a hole.

It is only a "select few" in the IE who shirk their duty. Not all of us are in that "select" group.

I get summoned each and every year. I usually have to call in the night before and they tell me I'm excused. Occasionally I've had to go sit in a room for a couple hours and THEN they tell me I'm excused. Only once, 25 years ago, did I make it as far as jury selection before I was excused. A few times I completely forgot about it and never even called. Nothing happened so either I was excused or they just chalked it up to me being a lousy citizen or something. I never got a threating letter or a fine. Yet.

I just last month had my third summons for Fontana Superior, each time with the above outcome. If they want me, I'll go.
