Very sad about the families and the church moved out to make way for Hemisfair, but think it helped the city grow.

There's an HEB there now and Joe Anthony is gone as well. For that matter the Varsity Drive-in is gone also. The Jim's Frontier that was at Bandera and Culebra has been gone a long time!!

There may not be any fotos of the businesses on that block of St. Mary's or any other except those appearing in postcards like the one below from N. St. Mary's looking south. Sometimes the City photographed building, businesses and homes, etc. before demolition but usually in the more historic neighborhoods or blocks especially for urban renewal projects like Hemisfair or freeways.
Btw, I heard recently that two more of the old Pig Stands have reopened. The one at Rigsby and WW White Rd. and another on S. Presa. Anyone know for sure if this is true?

Nice front view of the Greyhound Terminal and the Bluebonnet. Had forgotten it was there. On the right side of photo across from the Terminal was a place called "Green Gate" or Green Door. Remember as a kid seeing it from across the street. Was a burlesque or strip club ..think it had a sign with a devil and pitchfork in front. Funny the things a pre teen remembers. Think the Pig on St. Mary's is open under different name.

St Michael's Parish had great traditions. The Annual Fall Festival at Comanche Park. A great Polish sausage plate for $1.25. Every year in the late 60's they would raffle off a brand new Mustang. The cost of a raffle ticket was only a Quarter.

The Sisters of Divine Providence ran the school. Not many lay teachers back then. Nowadays you are fortunate if one religious is at any Catholic school.
