I worked for Studers Photos which was a wholesale photofinisher in competition with Fox Photos. I have photos labeled Studers from my own childhood in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
I sold cameras for Studers from mid 1970s to early 1980s. I even served Judge John Wood (aka Maximum John)
The main store was at 402 San Pedro
I attended John Marshall High School and St. Mary's University
I remember Earl Abel's and had or wrong rehearsal dinner there, after Prom too!
I remember the Fredericksburg Road Drive In Theater and Jim's Restaurants even at the Tower of the Americas! And all of the old Spanish Missions, not just the Alamo.

I've been trying to remember for the last few years and for the life of me there's just no way I can. Anybody? And if it's been mentioned here before I'm not about to read through hundreds if not thousands of posts of the last 11 or so years. Lol

I just saw this entry from 2018, I'm going to guess it was Scott Byers and Monte Montgomery. In the past I did sound engineering for both of them. Unfortunately, Scott passed a couple of years ago. PM me if you would like some of their music I recorded.

Dan’s was the old gas station off 471 past 1604.
I remember going in there with my Dad as a kid in the 70s.

I also remember a country store/gas station at Potranco and
Talley Rd called Laidley’s. Red Laidley and his wife ran the
business for years. If you can find the 70s movie titled “Race
With The Devil”, old Potranco Rd can be seen along with Laidley’s,
complete with Red and his wife in the movie too.
San Antonio was truly an entirely different place in the 70s and 80s.

Default Gone but not forgotten

Newbie here. Saw BudB posted a pic of Schwab's Station on I10. Stated he had another one of the first non-elcet pump. I know the son and would love to get that pic to him if possible. RN

I may have mentioned this before, but there's a website called https://www.historicaerials.com/viewer where you can see what the city looked like in 1955, 1963, 1973, 1986 and the modern day. It's absolutely incredible to see how much things have changed. I can only wish that we could have the equivalent of Google Streetview from those days. Alas, I suppose the only thing possible is if y'all & other private citizens share pictures you've taken in the old days. But who would take a picture of a dusty 281/1604 intersection from way back when? I've searched so much and have found nothing online.

I looked for Dan's gas station on FM-471, the only thing I can see past 1604 appears to be a farmhouse.

"Race with the Devil" is on YouTube & I just rented it! Well-done movie! They have shots of McCullough and 410 when they're setting out in the RV. Some other shots are obviously Castroville. Very cool!

"Race with the Devil" was also filmed on a ranch south of Laredo, TX. The house belonged to an old friends family. Sadly, it burned down in the 90's. It was truly a flashback to "Old Laredo", with tilework surrounding fireplaces in each room from all over the world. Built in the late 1800's, it was a stones throw from the Rio Grande River.
