THe Black Cow we went to was on Broadway just north of the Pig Stand but before the Gillespie Ford. It was there a long time as my mom and dad went there when they were dating. It was gone by the time I was a teen (1960's). At the time when I was a kid, they had a special brand of root beer but I'm not sure which it was but it was yummy.
Here it is as of 1933

There was a Black Cow on Fredricksburg Rd. near Basse. It was still in business late 70's maybe 80's at least. Think it was run by family named O'Connor. I can't remember if it's still there.

At Webers on Broadway that would be a Purple Martin.

......Pig Stand #29 1426 Broadway
......Webers 1418 Broadway

same addresses in my 1965 City Directory

oddly, in my 1930 phone book 2 Pig Stands on Broadway

Fredricksburg Rd. is nowhere near Basse

George's Triple XXX Root beer was on Fredricksburg Rd. near the intersection of Vance Jackson.

George Flores died quite a few years ago.
so that Drive In is Gone but not Forgotten.

this thread should be in Gone but not Forgotten...........

Thanks Mud I meant Babcock. Yeah it's just south of Vance Jackson. I though it was a Black Cow at one time. No? Probably mid 70's when these O'Connors were there. I agree with it belonging in GBNF.

Yeah.. was gonna say it had to be south of the Pig Stand where 35 crosses Broadway if it was between the pig and Gillespie Ford which was at Jones & Broadway.

The "Flame" may have had Black Cows. I don't recall as I was a pre-teen most of my trips there. Early 60's.

It's the Gillespie location i recall best near the corner building not necessarily right next door. Maybe 70's -80's. O.R. Mitchell may have moved in when Gillespie went out.
