Default SA Graffitti

Many people attribute the graffiti problem to the an influx of Mexican immigrants. However, I do NOT believe that is correct! I have lived in Guadalajara for years and the situation here is far worse than anything I have seen on my trips to SA. On visits to/thru other Mexican towns such as Aguascalientes, Saltillo, Monterrey, etc. I have hardly seen any graffitti.
The economic losses to graffitti must be astronomical!! In many cases treasured historical buildings have been defaced---just check the walls of the "Expiatorio" in Guadalajara. Nothing is sacred.

What's funny about the cities proposed plan, is that they plan to have people clean up the graffiti in 10 days or face a fine. When asked if this law would also affect those big green boxes the city owns they said yes. So any city property that is defaced has to be cleaned in 10 days or else they get fined.

I'm breaking out with the camcorder and will count 10 days down and see how often I can get the city to be fined.

People should support an alternative idea and sign the petition.

Punish the kids making the graffiti, not the parents.

Default Graffiti solution

I agree that the perps should have a finger cut off or their face sprayed with paint -- and we need to attack the problem at home first....

But I know of a company in Georgia that can produce anti-graffiti signs! you can wipe off spray paint and permenant marker using just a little rubbing alcohol!!! They do all types of signs with any image on them.

I realise this doesn't help if the graffiti is not on a sign but at least it is a start and it saves $$ for us tax payer since the signs don't need to be taken down and thrown out!!!

You can check them out on the web at

I agree with you, but what makes angrier is the police in san antonio "can't do anything" No matter what the problem is, "there is nothing they can do, because it was not done in front of them". Kids are trespassing and littering private property, and they can do anything. They don't even advise the homeowner if they have a recourse.

I have lived here in San Antonio for about 3 years now but it seems lately I have seen more graffiti.

Yesterday and the day before I saw on the news about the graffiti and vandalism at the drive inn and the Mission's Trail.

I don't know what type of punishment policy the city has but it needs some more teeth.

The problem starts at the home of these idiots. You have to start and wonder what is causing the decay of our society. What makes these idiots do these acts of vandalism?

When and if these idiots are caught, they and their parents should be punished. If I find out kids are doing these things, I know I will have to remedy the damage but then my kids will have to answer to me.

Make the parents pay for the damage, the idiots who did the damage will have to fix it and do community service by cleaning up the work of other idiots, the idiots will have to wears signs that say "I am an Idiot Tagger" and will stand at intersections with a lot of traffic and their home will have a big sign that reads "Here Lives an Idiot Tagger!" Of course all this will be in english and spanish.

Finally, if these idiots are caught again, they will be subjected to all of the above but will be tatooed in pink with a sign that says, "I Luv Graffiti".

Kind of like the scarlet letter.

The parents have no control over the kids, but something needs to make them take control. If parents get complains about their delinquents, they get mad and defend their actions even if it is illegal. They are so stupid. They even join them in committing crimes.

I agree completely. I think it is horrible when I am driving home down I10 and see that even the Exit Signs that are about 20ft in the air have been defaced!!!! How can driver's not see that happening? these are pretty elaborate drawings that must take some time. And doesn't TxDot have cameras on the freeways? Can't they see it on there?

Well If this helps any.. i know that if you call 211 they can provide you with paint to paint over graffitti... although i don't know all the details maybe this way it won't cost you money to do so.

Sign the petition and make your voice be heard by city council. There is no reason to complain if your not willing to step up to the plate when you need to.

We used to have curfews enforced in San Antonio! I think this needs to come back. Yes, we need to go after the parents as well. My children are oung and I hope to never have these types of issues. It is starting to really **** me off when you drive through the city and home owners fences have been sprayed. Maybe community service for the child and parent.
