Yeah, they can get there, I know but it is doubtful they'd even try.

If we have out of town guests, they can get in the truck with us and go wherever we want but if you don't know the area, then you get sucked in to Casa Rio and the like.
Trust me I get it, if only Rosarios had better service and was one mile north or La Fonda moved onto the river....if only.

Mexican Manhattan is my favorite Tex-Mex place on the river, and a gorgeous patio to boot.

I ate there once before going to an event at the Tobin. Below-average food and the kitchen was so slow I didn't have time to finish my meal to get to the event on time. If Mexican Manhattan is average, then Rita's is 5-star dining by comparison. The only thing I will say in its favor is that the prices were reasonable, by downtown standards.

We do need better some better restaurants to open on the River Walk.

I agree Casa Rio needs to die a painful death, the food quality and service are horrible.

^^ Apart from the prime location, I think I read somewhere that it's the oldest restaurant on the River Walk. If that is true, it's a darn shame the owners let the food quality go down the toilet.

The Yelp and Trip advisor reviews seem more positive today than the last time I looked (which is around when I went in 2014), maybe things have improved....

It was the first restaurant to take a chance on the Riverwalk.

It's a shame that the only restaurants that can afford to operate on that zoo water riverfront property,
are corporate chain restaurants, or tourist traps that are only open because of their location and popularity with naive tourists. (and locals that have a need to be seen at a popular spot)
If Casa Rio wasn't on the Riverwalk, it wouldn't be open, serving that poor quality food at those prices.
The best restaurants are mostly mom and pop operations that could never survive the overhead there.

The South, Chicken and Waffles is opening up an "express" location at Nacogdoches and O'Connor in the old Carl's Jr. building. Facebook page says they hope to be open "sometime in June."
