When I was a kid my parents could only afford to take the brood to Playland Park on "Handy Andy Day." Admission to the park was discounted if you wore a ribbon given out by the Handy Andy stores. It was always on a Saturday in August. So you had everyone in town showing up at Playland Park on what was guaranteed to be the hottest day of the year.

I LOVE it!!! Do you all remember the drive in theatre at 281 (San Pedro, we still called it back then) and Bitters? It was WAY country in the 70s and 80s. Good times.

Remember when you could still buy magazines at convenience stores? For some reason they stopped selling them around 5 years ago, although you might find a few from the automobile and "girlie" genres.

I have a question for anyone who remembers the old Hall of Horns Museum at the Lone Star Brewery. It was located south of downtown.

I remember the last time I visited it, I was waiting outside of the building in the back area of the property. There were these small water channels or something back there. Definitely man made. Does anyone know what the heck I'm talking about?

Speaking of Playland Park, did they work on an "admission" basis or did they use a "ticket" system for the attractions? I have vague memories of both.

I'm sure the admission prices from back then would look ridiculously cheap in comparison to today amusement park prices.

The above is totally wrong. I must have just dreamed this or too small when it became a memory. Anyway the Kingpin was Fred Carrasco and he met his demise somewhere else.
Joe "King" Carrasco, and the Crowns were a music group that played in the region in the late 70's early 80's. On one of his first albums he had the catchphrase, "buy this album and win a date with my sister". One of his best songs was "Jalapenos con Big Red". They just don't put out music like THAT any more.

Dibbles Hobbies is still there off of Donaldson. They are heavily into model railroading. I used to go there because I was into wargames and they were one of the few shops to have a selection.

Also Randy's rodeo is still there, holding tejano concerts and other events.

I had WONDERED about that post. Joe "King" Carrasco a druglord? He was dead?

I remember he even used to be on MTV back when they played MUSIC!!

He used to occasionaly run across the stage wearing nothing but his crown and cape! Could have lived my life without seeing that. I loved seeing him play Spring Break down on the beach.
