These are all great. No, it's not a typical all-encompassing Mexican restaurant, but how many Mexican restaurants have that many GOOD selections.

Another thing is the fast service: you can walk in with a party of 30 people and be seated in 5 minutes.

Okay, so they a great selection of BAD food. As for the service, it would be different if they actually combined that good service with GOOD food, but that wasn't my experience.

The rest of this thread paired with the quote above reminds me of the famous Yogi Berra quote about a restaurant.

"No one goes there nowadays, it's too crowded."

Nearly every time my 28 yr old daughter is in town we go to Alamo Cafe. Their taco salad is good and although the rice doesn't taste like Spanish Rice, I like it. I did notice the last time we were there the rice wasn't like it used to be so maybe they changed it. Actually, nothing tasted as good as it used to. When the kids were little the two places we often went were Alamo Cafe and Luby's. Single mom with little money but wanting to teach the kids how to behave in restaurants. And they did. (behave)

wait wait wait. I actually like Casa Rio. I'm not looking for gourmet food, obviously, when I go, but holy schnikes, for good old 70's type Mexican food drenched in cheese and enchilada sauce, it's great. I do get hankerings for cheap crap sometimes. Casa Rio fits that and WITH a view. Yeah, it's touristy, but who cares? My friends from school would call it good "hangover food".

Ate at Alamo Cafe about 2 months ago for lunch. Horrible food and service. First time I'd been there since a late night dinner a few years ago. Back a few years ago, it must have been the margaritas(which I do remember being pretty good) and forgot why I swore off the place. Just wondering how they stay in business ....

Mea culpa. You're right. I had a soccer mom growing up and she was a real trooper for hauling our non-driving butts everywhere.
