I have read the book of Job - some ex-christians have stated that Job put them off the faith. Yet, at the church I attend, the minister recently did a series on Job. I found it strenghtened my faith. Yet, some have said it weakened theirs.

What do you think about the story of Job? Does it make you doubt God?
What do you think?

Job strengthens my faith also. Job never gave up on God during his suffering, he focused on God. Job teaches how we can trust God more and good God really is ALL the time.

I believe the story of Job is only a parable.
Why else would God have a wager Satan?

Quote:
Job 8-12
8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? 9 Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? 10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. 11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. 12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
To me it only proves that people who fear God do not acknowledge that God = Love.

I have read the book of Job several times, and get a lot of good out of it. I certainly does not make me doubt God. It does make me realize that God may test us to see if we love Him more than we love what we have. It also tells me that He will bless us in the end, if we keep our faith in Him. There is a lot of information in the book about God, and his creation.

I admire the strength of Job's faith, in this story, but I have serious questions about God making wagers over Job, and with his purported enemy, no less! If I found out that someone who claimed to love me, was making bets on whether or not I'd fold under intense pressure, I don't think I'd take it too kindly. And, I should hope that God would already know if someone loved him, more than they loved their material possessions, without such a hideous "test" as poor ol' Job was put through! God is supposed to be omniscient. Oh, nevermind; I forgot, it's not for his benefit, it's for ours. At least, that's what I remember being taught in church. As if life isn't tough enough without God "testing" folks, just to make things more spiritually educational, for crying out loud!

You must be the "mud."
