I used to live in a town that was 65% Jewish. There are Orthodox, Conservative and Reformed congregations there.
Some stores were closed on Saturday, simply because the owners were observant.
It was only a problem if I had a hankering for a good sandwich from my favorite kosher deli on Shabbat. There was also a good kosher/vegetarian pizza place in town that would close on Saturday. It was no big deal. They would also close for Jewish holidays.
Yes in Orthodox neighborhoods they close on Saturday. I didn't even think about that.
The problem with those blue laws, as opposed to those establishments that choose to close for their own reasons, is that it is the government making laws that respect one religion over another, clearly in violation of the First Amendment.

this is a another fine reason as to why the religious establishments should taxed (well really any old excuse will do for me).
