There are 7 billion people on earth. Most are men and women. The chances of me finding a lovely, sweet, genuine, honest, kind, caring, and tolerant woman are pretty fair.

Are you joining a monastery in service of the poor and hungry? My aunt is a nun and has taken formal vows of celibacy and poverty. I think if you feel like you have a noble purpose, you should pursue it.
On the other hand, if you just don't like dealing with women and find it easier to avoid trying, and the part about diseased and hungry children was simply a way to sound selfless, then never mind.

Deciding to be celibate is not some difficult, agonizing moral struggle (except maybe for some priests). It's simply an indication of a very low sex drive. For most of us, engaging in relationships and sex is a switch that can be turned on or off, the pressure to have sex grows until it becomes a complete obsession.
For men, that is. I don't know how true that is of women.

There is some pressure from our mass-media culture. But you can ignore that. However, a lot of guys just straight-up have a STRONG desire for sex (and cuddling and romance) and get REALLY frustrated after a while when they don't get it.
