I talk about my x boyfriends just as much as I talk about other people on my life. They were people in my life, they are always part of my life, they are not taboo.
They are taboo to everyone else, no guy wants to listen to that crap.
They like to compare tools. Just like you compare your new sanding belt to your old one. No biggie unless you're unsecure.
Huh-huh-huh, you said tools (a little Beavis and Butthead impression, lol).
Anyhow, it depends on how they compare the guys. If a girl talks about her ex having a bigger penis, being better in bed, or being all around a better person then there's a problem (I've actually had an ex-GF talk about how good the sex was with her ex, but there was nothing else good about him. She ended up dumping me and going back to him). If she talks about him in a bad way and how much better her current one is, then that's good.

I don't know if I agree with that last sentence. If she is talking about her ex at all, that means he is on her mind. If she is talking about how awful he was and how much better her current guy is, she is probably just trying to make herself believe that because she hasn't yet gotten over the ex.
It's hard to say without knowing what "talking about their exes" means.
There's a lot of difference between:
Him: So I was thinking we could go hiking at blah blah state park. Ever been?
Her: I went there once with my ex, but we didn't go on many of the trails. I've always wanted to go back. Let's plan a trip!
and
Him: So, I saw Rush in concert...it was awesome.
Her: Oh, I love Rush! Did I mention that my ex used to be in a Rush tribute band...he was a big fan! I still have a bunch of his old Rush t-shirts. We still talk a lot...he's a really good guitarist. In fact, I'm probably gonna go to a festival of Rush tribute bands with him and a bunch of his friends and family next weekend...you don't mind, do you? I'm still really close to his family, pop over there for dinner once in a while...they were really sad when we broke up...
If she brings him up every few minutes it means that he is always on her mind still and not really over him. If she casually mentions him once in a long while along with other people, then it's nothing to worry over.
Well, most people would mention their exes in passing for one reason or another in a conversation. They were parts of their lives after all. Too much talking about them and particularly expressing anger while doing it is a red flag, though.
I agree with this. I don't think I've had a relationship in which both of our exs didn't come up at some point. It was never a real issue because it was just a comment in passing. In fact, I think someone who won't talk about an ex at all probably has more issues that someone who mentions an ex occasionally.
It can be quite enlightening. It's amazing what you can learn about a person from their dating past.
The weird guys brag about their ex's, maybe to show they have had some action in the past 15 years?
