Now men have Mr. (and you can't tell if they're married...whereas Mrs. you can). And men are called "Sir" which can really sounds more respectful an not old-ladyish like "Ma'am".

The only reason she did take his last name was for the sake of the children she knew they'd have one day. She told me she's always believed this way...even as a young girl.
Back in the day there was a bride price to be paid.

Todays world you pay before, after and later.

Some people have to complain about something. How does being called "Mrs" imply ownership? I don't "own" my wife nor do I want to.

I guess not everyone wants their legal status to be made public. It also affects women far more in the workplace than men.

A woman who would be offended by or complain about being called Mrs. is probably the type of woman who would b*tch about owning 6 pairs of shoes instead of 7. You just cant please some people.

What woman only owns 7 pairs of shoes???

Yes - my husband owns me. He keeps the pink slip in the glove box with the papers for the car.

I am about to get married, but I didn't realise I was going to own my wife. I thought it was a long term lease... (j/k!)

Hoosier,

Your co-worker sounds like a idiot, or very immature person.

The Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution officially outlaws slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime. It was passed by the Senate on April 8, 1864, by the House on January 31, 1865, and adopted on December 6, 1865.

So, I would say in the United States it is pretty obvious no one owns anyone. End of story.

But, I still think your co-worker is hopeless...
