It's a visual thing. The closer you see them the harder resale. A block or 2 would be best but it all depends on their size, how noticeable they are and is there a big old ugly tower you are looking at ?

the house in question is about a mile from the power lines...not visible but around...do you think that's good enough?

I would think that would be just fine. I wouldn't consider power lines that far away to be any kind of factor.

I'm with Mike, a mile away is no problem.

I am guessing you mean the long distance , big tower kind of transmission lines. If you even notice the lines now and they are a mile away it must be a big open new subdivision. Hopefully the trees will grow to block any view well before you would need / want to sell.

yes it's the long distance big tower type...running right through the town. You can't see them, I only noticed when i did a map lookup and saw them on the arial map. I thought I'd heard that you should be at least a mile away from them, and certainly they're not close enough to see, so I guess that's ok. thanks

You want to be miles away from those ugly power stations. I think everyone must be near one power line, otherwise how do you get power to the house?

People are concerned about electromagnetic fields, myself included. If you live too close to too strong a field, it does have a negative impact on your health. I even got feed back from an agent whose buyer didn't like that my house (when it was on the market) was too close (two blocks away) from a hospital which I now have learned emits radiation and strong eletromagnetic fields.

Please cite your source for this information. I am a licensed Professional Engineer and know of no studies that show electromagnetic radiation from power lines is bad for your health.

Your computer that you are sitting in front of creates a electromagnet field that is much stronger than a hospital 2 blocks away.

I believe that the Calfornia EMF study states that EMF from power likely causes some cancers.
