It's official. I'm heading out next week to start house hunting. I like what I'm seeing about Clayton, but was curious if you live in the Riverwood Subdivision (golf or athletic), do you go to Riverwood schools? Also, is there re-districting in Johnston Co, like in Wake?
So far the redistricting hasn't happened in the Clayton area, and I haven't heard any rumblings about it happening. Riverwood does = Riverwood schools (we have several friends in Riverwood and live just up the road in Flower's Plantation). Right now it would be Riverwood Elementary, then Riverwood Middle, then Clayton HS. Supposedly there are plans for a new high school in the Riverwood area though.
Don't know how much you know about the way that area is set up, but Riverwood is INSIDE the city limits. This means that the annual taxes are potentially double what they would be outside. I've also heard that there is a premium on utilities. We looked in there several times, but decided to look outside the city limits, where we could get $25-30k more house for the same monthly payments. FWIW, there are several neighborhoods in the area that still go to the Riverwood schools.
People that live in Flowers Plantation got moved from Riverwood Middle School to Archer Lodge Middle. Also I know families that lived in a community off Covered Bridge Road whose kids went to Riverwood and then were redistricted to Cooper Elem. That's why we chose Riverwood Athletic Club. Elem. and middle schools right in the neighborhood means no chance of kids being moved! :-)
I think Riverwood Athletic is within city limits but Riverwood Golf is not considered inside city limits- ...not sure why that is...
