I don't eat meat, so I rate BBQ joints on the quality of their hushpuppies. And Q Shack wins there, hands down. I hit that place up every time I'm at North Hills. Smithfield's is the worst.
I have gathered from second hand accounts that Allen and Son's BBQ is pretty good. I take people there regularly. Not much in the way of atmosphere, though.
On the Today Show this morning they had a BBQ cook-off between The Pit in Raleigh and a BBQ joint in Charleston, SC and the judges all voted for the Raleigh BBQ so I am guessing it must be good.
