my limited experience with these banks in the local Raleigh area:
BofA: great service locally, absolute nightmare corporate if you ever have issues
Suntrust: great service, good everything else
First Citizens: great service, employees less knowledgeable than other banks, higher fees for everything
Wells Fargo: good service, average to high fees, employees seem to be more capable/knowledgable
BB&T: okay service, higher fees, have not used them for any services other than basic
would recommend Suntrust, then Wells Fargo over the others personally; the local service here in the Raleigh area very good; part of dealing with a bank is the corporate higher levels if things aren't right
I have no issues with BB&T and First Citizens other than slightly higher fees for things
The OP went with First Citizens' bank. I would have recommended BB&T. They're conservative and solid, and one of the few banks that DIDN'T need to be bailed out. . .
Credit unions, all the way. I no longer patronize the banks. They're the ones who got us in the financial mess and they seem determined to do it again, now with the rental market.

We are looking for a good local credit union. I have one in FL but I guess I need to see if they are affiliated with any credit unions here. We have BOA for our main acct because when we moved here from UK it was the easiest to do international banking with. Now that we are here and own our own business we want something smaller and local. My cu in FL was bought out four times and I couldn't access my acct when I lived abroad.

Coastal Federal Credit Union is a good one. Love them. No issues ever over the many years with them. Savings are insured to at least $250k by NCUA.
Coastal Federal Credit Union... All the way!! You pay a fee to join and they have all the things you mentioned
