Where are the meat markets in Raleigh?? Back in New York I would get my meats from the meat market and everything else from the supermarket. Fruit from the fruit stands.

It's not a butcher like you were likely used to but the Whole Foods meat counter is far superior then anything you'll find in a grocery store.

Thanks so much. Everybody takes a look at a post, but know one really wants to take the time out and respond.

Moni, don't take it personally. If people don't respond it's usually because they don't have an answer. You might have better luck on a more food-related forum like Chowhound.com.

That said, I hear that local meat is sold at the state farmers market in Raleigh. I've also heard about a butcher in Chapel Hill, but I can't remember the name. Honestly, most people here just buy their meat at the grocery store.

I was hoping to find a butcher shop. I live in N Raleigh and get meat from the grocery stores (usually Harris Teeter), but would prefer a market that specializes in fresh meat and seafood. Jezebel's Seafood on Durant had fresh seafood and a booming business, but for some reason, closed suddenly.

There are local farms that sell local pork, beef, lamb and chicken at the farmer's market in Moore Square on Wednesdays. I get my meat from them and keep it in the freezer.

Fresh Market is full service and freezer wraps all meat in both paper and vinyl film.

Cliff's Meat Market in Carrboro, if you ever find yourself out that way. It's on the corner of Weaver & Greensboro.
