If you'll be here Saturday morning, you could go to the Drag Brunch (http://www.crapemyrtlefest.org/images/dragbrunch.jpg - broken link)at The Mint restaurant in downtown Raleigh starting at 11:00. That's something unique! It's a fundraiser for the Crape Myrtle Festival, which raises money for local AIDS charities (No, attendees do not dress in drag ).

Another person (me!) planning to visit Raleigh this month. I am trying to find things SPECIFIC to Raleigh. We live in Charlotte and will be there for 2 full days. We have a house full of teens. Aside from Visiting NC State, they said there is 'nothing to do' in Raleigh that they can't do here. I find that hard to believe (but assigned them the task of putting the tourist stuff together). So, we are riding up on the train for the fun of it and renting a car.
What is there to do in Raleigh that you can't do in most other cities (esp. Charlotte!)???
We had hoped the Hurricanes would be in the hunt, but no such luck.

Any additional thoughts??

Taben

Dinner at the American Tobacco Campus and take in a Durham Bulls game.

Well, you might want dinner at North Hills, movie at North Hills, and then dessert at Lafayette. Or stay for dessert at North Hills.

What time of the day has the most traffic? I'm planning to head down to Charlotte on Friday around 10AM to avoid high traffic. Is this a good time where the traffic is not so hectic?

Sure, as long as you stay away from the rush hour times, I think you're fine.

I'm always surprised at how much traffic (sometimes) there is during non-rush hour times. Makes me wonder why there are so many people who aren't at a 9 to 5 job.

What are the rush hour times in Raleigh? Rush hour here (on weekdays) starts around 5:30AM til about 9:00AM. Then it starts again around 3:30PM til about 6:30PM.

I think of it as 7 or so to 9 in the morning and 4 to 6 or so in the evening. But others may disagree.

I'm extremely fortunate that I am able to pretty much avoid it.

That's probably about right for the morning rush, but the afternoon rush seems to drag out longer, til 7 in some places; I guess because people have a set time to be AT work but not a set time they leave? Maybe not starting until 4:30? It depends on the road, I guess. I know 40 is still pretty packed around 7:00 leaving RTP, and when I used to work in Chapel Hill until 6 PM, I always hit standstill traffic for part of the time coming east even that late.

For the OP, 10 is about as non-rush as you'll find.
