I'm going to be visiting the Raleigh area with my family next summer. We're planning on moving in the area next year and want to take in the different sites and see the area. I have done some research online but was wondering what are some areas of interest to see? I have a 3 & 7 yr. old. We're planning to visit the week prior to the July 4th weekend.

What are your interests?

What sounded interesting that you saw online?

Just by talking with a few of my friends the Raleigh area is a little more layed than the Charlotte region. If there are small town festivals that are unique to the area, museums, I know hockey and the college sports won't be up and running but we like sporting events, outdoors type of recreation (hiking, bike trails etc.) Since it's the July 4th week/weekend I'm sure there are festivals, parades, fireworks etc. that will be going on.

I'm also looking at www.visitraleigh.com to give me some ideas as well.

There's so much to do that you will probably do best getting on a lot of email newsletter lists about events in Raleigh, Durham, and the entire North Carolina area. Also the local paper: newsobserver.com | Home

You have a lot of time to create a great trip. Create your own itinerary from your Internet research, and then run it by city-date people, and then they'd be better able to give you productive feedback on specific things.

I think you'd want to wait until a LITTLE closer to the time of the visit before asking something like this! July 4th events can change from year to year, and what happened this year may not be there again.

Ask again in May 2010!
