Does anyone know of a cheap boarding place for our dogs for when we go on vacation? We saw the suite paws resort, but that's way too expensive.

We want real cheap, but the dogs to be treated well.

Some Pet Smarts have PetsHotels. We have used the one in Cary and N. Raleigh and both were clean and professional and resonably priced.

If we're going on a longer trip, we like to use Suite Paws. If its just for a night or two (and the pup can't go to "grandma's") we'll do his vet's office. The difference is ~$5 a night, but at the vet he gets hoarse from barking so much.

You may want to look at having someone come in to walk/take care of the dog. Most of those run $13-15 a day, which is less than Suite Paws.

Do you have any friends/neighbors/family nearby that would be willing to trade off pet-sitting?

Well you won't get real cheap dog care that is good. It's like real cheap human care - not so good!

Petsmart hotels are not great from what I hear. Minimum wage and inexperienced handlers , the exercise period is dogs going psycho in a room

The least traumatizing experience for the animal is getting someone good and trustworthy that will come to your home and walk/feed your dog a couple of times a day

We use camp bow wow in Cary and my puppy LOVES going there. He just about drags me to the door when we arrive.

Everyone that I have met there has been awesome and they have webcam (no additional cost) so you can check up on your pup.

They ask that you do an "interivew" which is basically just paperwork, a meet and greet with two dogs to guage your dogs behavior, and then if they pass they get to stay the day for free to give it a "test drive".

They are very accomodating and let us bring his toys for comfort and he's even needed to take meds there and they were fine with that, no extra charges for that either.

Ditto! Reps your way Steve. We have a wonderful pet sitter who comes to our home 3 x day when we're away and it's worth every penny to know my dogs are well taken care of and loved. I wouldn't trust just anyone with the care of my dogs.

You may find someone to come housesit for a nominal fee and take care of your pets at the same time.

I echo this question. There are plenty of great places, but you'd want one near where you are if you're going to use it even fairly often.

The pet sitters charge their fee for each visit, right, not per day? So if they charge $15/visit, you'd be paying $45/day, quite a bit more than even the highest-fee kennel or pet resort.

We use Green Level Kennel in Cary/Apex area and can't recommend them enough. They are awesome!

For short weekend trips, we pay the kid down the street to come to our house 3x a day to feed our 2 dogs and let them out.

For longer trips, or times when the family down the street won't be home, we take them to the kennel associated with our vet (Town and Country in Apex). It's expensive, and the dogs always need a trip to the groomers afterwards to get rid of that awful kennel smell, but what else can you do?
