This weekend is supposed to be nice and warm. Does anyone know where I can legally hike with the dogs in Raleigh? We went to Yate's Mill 2 weekends ago- and didn't see the "no dogs allowed" sign until we left.

I'm not looking for a dog park- -- too many changes of non-vaccinated dogs and a really high rate of Kennel Cough.

Thanks in advance!

Lake Johnson. Umstead Park.

Can't wait for that warm weather!

Durant Nature Park. We hike with the dog all the time. If they like water, take the Border trail (or Secret Creek trail)--it runs along the creek.................and what smells better in the car than a wet dog?

Second on Umstead. Also consider Lake Lynn although this is more park/trail rather than hiking. There are always lots of people walking/running with their dogs on the 2.2 mi loop and there is a large grassy area on the Lynn Rd side.

Falls lake. But seeing as its the only place in the area, its almost impossible to find parking on a nice weekend day.

Umstead is great. I also like Occoneechee in Hillsborough (can actually be pretty strenuous for around here), and my default dog hike is at Eno River State Park.

Dogs have to be leashed at all of these. I do see unleashed dogs sometimes - I don't recommend (and people get really angry about that) (I am one of them)

Yates Mill is actually the ONLY place here that I have encountered that pets are not permitted. They consider it a park and a "wildlife sanctuary", so they don't want the habitat disturbed by overzealous Labradors, I guess.

I live down by Yates Mill and have often taken my dogs to Crowder Park (mostly asphalt trails), Hemlock Bluffs in Cary, and Umstead.
