Nice little GW...strange theft target though...older boat, older motor, not likely loaded with electronics. Silly crooks, go straight to jail.

The boat and trailer was recovered, but the motor was missing.

Sad thing, the owner may not have had theft insurance and good luck trying to find that engine.

I would think that if the victim had the engine serial number the police could put it into NCIC and in the off chance anybody runs it at least they could get charged. Does the serial number of outboards go on the boat registration anyplace here in FLA?

I don't think the motors are titled in Fl only boats if I heard correctly from others, but don't quote me on that.

Not many fish out there today. It started raining while we were headed back. Then we got hit by a nasty squall near the PC beach. Winds seemed like they were driving the rain 50mph straight into my eyes....couldn't even see the front of the boat, or the GPS (and the large bimini top was up!). Had to idle and circle for a while to stay in [what I thought was] deep water. Only way we could tell our location was an occasional glimpse of land landmarks. Very weird and crazy situation to be in so close to home. I've been in weather like that before, but not so close to land, and shallow water hazards.

I had the gps set to North UP....never again. It was impossible to make out the direction of the arrow on the screen...course up from now on. I just installed that new chartplotter 2 weeks ago and messing with it in this situation was impossible. Lesson learned.

The serial # on that motor is just a sticker that can be peeled off. And no, they are not registered in FL. That is probably why the thief went after an older motor, the newer outboards have the serial number encoded into the computer and any tech that plugs into it could find out if it was reported stolen. Old motor....not much chance of getting caught, sad to say.

Keep your eyes out for a neighbor repowering with an old Yamy 115.
