Sorry if I made that confusing. I will be working in the Battle Ground area, I was debating whether living near Battle Ground or in Portland.

That changes everything. Work in Battleground, Live in Battleground. You ain't going to party every night so a drive to Portland is no big deal.

If your job is in WA, why donate an additional 10-15% of your income to Oregon? If I could LIVE in WA and work in PDX to avoid the Oregon income tax, I would do so.

Spend your time off in PDX if you're looking for stuff to do, just don't make it your home unless you're also working there and have no other choice.

Do what other SW WA residents do, buy stuff in Oregon to avoid sales tax. There is a reason why the Costco near the airport is their highest volume store. Also near the airport is IKEA and a huge Target.

The OP would be living and working in WA. If you live in WA and work in OR, you have to file an OR non-resident income tax return.
