There is also: Around the Sun: A Blog About Saving Money in Portland, Oregon, and beyond - for free things to do in PDX. It's setup to tell you about what is coming up in the next week. Usually 50% of the activities are kid-friendly or kid-specific.

Personally, I do not consider the Pearl District that kid-friendly. It's a great place for dining, but most of those places are pretty upscale and not really what I'd call family friendly.

There are a couple of Portland's larger parks in the area though, but with the weather that might be totally out.

On the other hand, (and not having kids myself,) I can't think of area that would be more kid-friendly. Most of the activities you'd have to travel to anyways no matter what neighborhood you're in.

Thank you all for your helpful and encouraging feedback. After reading your comments and the other sites, plus comparing the place I found in the Pearl with the Vacation Rentals (most are seriously overpriced, or already booked) I decided to stick with this offer. I will begin by relying on public transport and then rent a car if needed, since my only known out of the way destination is Vancouver, and only 1 or 2 times in the whole month (I love the ZipCar idea! Thanks Nell!!).

I am greatly looking forward to this little sojourn in Portland and it seems that there will be enough alternatives to keep my son entertained, one way or another.

Thank you very much for your help,
Best wishes
